A Tribute from her friend Sandra Rubin
Jeri didn't post to the list often, but when she said she lived in Dallas we shortly began meeting for lunch. It was spring, 1998.
Jeri lived with her partner who loved her dearly. Her house was comfortable, designed for Jeri's limited movement. A modern black leather recliner was her favorite, a gift from her partner. She also enjoyed the hot tub in the back yard, soothing to an achy body.
She was employed by MBNA in far North Dallas. She was grateful to them for their patience with her illness. Mostly she was grateful to this list, for it was the source of most of what she knew about her breast cancer. This knowledge enabled her to be aggressive in it's treatment and knowlegable about it's results and lack thereof.
Since Jeri had bone mets for several years, she did not feel immediately threatened by death while we met. I only learned Jeri died at the Race for the Cure (10/98) when the runner in front of me was running in Jeri's memory - not in celebration of her life as I expected. Apparently the disease spread suddenly to her lungs. With much chemo behind her, Jeri didn't have resources behind her to fight and she died quickly.
